1. Q: Can Expio be used to treat the water for my whole house or cottage?

A: No, Expio is designed to produce bottled water from an untreated water supply, it can be installed onto existing plumbing, but the water produced must be in bottled form and is not for immediate consumption.

2. Q: Can Expio be run off a car battery or small generator?

A: Yes, only 140 watts continuous power is needed to run Expio, a small power inverter (175 watts) is available through us.

3. Q: Can Expio be used to treat saltwater or brackish water?

A: No, Expio is designed for freshwater only, it can however be used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system to produce safe water from saltwater.

4. Q: How long do the filters last?

A: Filter life depends on raw water quality, so it varies from source to source. In average Expio's filters last 400 gallons (1500 L) before changing.

5. Q: How long does a standard bottle of oxygen last (mini)?

A: Oxygen consumption varies with treatment time; the less time it takes to treat your water the longer the oxygen will last. For an average treatment time of 3 minutes you oxygen will treat 150 gallons (570 L).

6. Q : What's the difference between a 50$ store bought filter and the Expio system?

A : Almost all store bought systems were designed to filter home tapwater and are not suited for purifying untreated water, like lake or river water. Contrary to most available systems Expio can:

  • Disinfect untreated water, killing viruses, bacteria and parasites
  • Totally remove all taste and odor
  • Disinfect the water storage bottle, so you can store you treated water for days without worry of recontamination
  • Purify up to 100 gallons a day
  • Disinfect it's internal water filtration cartridges, ensuring user safety and long filter life

7. Q: What's the difference between Expio and systems using Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection?

A: UV systems disinfect water by exposing it to UV radiation. UV systems are effective in treating municipal water that has already been disinfected and treated to remove most contaminants. UV systems are not designed to treat surface and raw water sources like lakes, streams and rivers. Expio's ozone technology does more than just disinfect the water, it also oxidizes contaminants and unlike UV radiation, a residual ozone concentration remains in the water treatment bottle, which ensures safe drinking water.

8. Q: Why not use a reverse osmosis system to treat surface water?

A: Membrane technologies like reverse osmosis are very effective in removing a wide range of contaminants. Unfortunately they require high pressures to operate and a system small enough to be portable by hand would take hours to produce a few gallons of water, and require a lot of electricity to do so.
